In 1986, the Parkland Woman’s Club was founded by Cypress Head neighbors and friends, Debby Beck and Charlotte (Brower) DeLeu. Debby and Charlotte wanted to organize women in their community for fellowship and service. They realized that affiliation with the Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs (FFWC), and therefore, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) International would best meet the needs of the Club. In April of 1987, the Club and its 61 charter members were accepted into the FFWC/GFWC at the FFWC Convention in Orlando. In our first newsletter, President Charlotte says, “Already many women-powered hours have been spent in setting worthwhile goals for service to and for the betterment of Parkland. This commitment to community involvement will insure our success!” The Club’s bylaws call for our general member meetings to take place on the third Thursday of each month (September thru May) and the management of the Cypress Head Clubhouse gave us a permanent place to hold our monthly meetings.
